1940s Kira.
I really want some shoes like that.
I now hunger for an AU where Kira and Odo have a PI agency, and their frenemy is Garak, the local crime lord. Rumor on the street has it he is trying to woo the new Chief Medical Examiner (okay, even 7th season Bashir is way too young for such a position, but still, AU).
Kira and Odo have their office above Quark’s speakeasy, much to Odo’s chagrin. But it is a great place to collect gossip and work, so they stay. They get much of their work from the downtrodden, the disenfranchised, so they have a paying scale.
And adventures and stuff.
OR what if Julian is the idealistic young doctor trying to practise on the wrong side of town and he’s the person they go to for patching up after getting all banged up on their investigations?
Yes, this! At first, they think Julian is just slumming, trying to feel important by bringing his fancy this-universe equivalent of east coast Ivy League medicine to the down and out part of town. But then! He proves himself by hiding them when the out-of-towner Dukat sends his right-hand man, Damar, after them for investigating his sex slave trade ring, when it would have been safer to give them up. Standing up to that racket is no mean feat.
I imagine Julian’s practice being declared neutral ground by the various factions in town. Their, cops, criminals, the poor and the less-poor, go there in truce and anyone who raises a hand on his ground is quickly shown that is Not How Things Are Done.
Getting Kira and Odo’s approval was probably the high-light of Julian’s life.
Second only to the way Garak turns up in the middle of the night with grisly injuries for him to treat, which he claims are ‘sewing accidents.’
Some of which may have been sustained in the course of explaining to large, angry people that that is Not How Things Are Done.
SUDDEN THOUGHT
what about Dixon Hill
what if he figures into this
kajdf;alkjfaadjgf;dufre;kj
YES!
*breathing hard from excitement*
Dixon Hill, their rival in business, and his associate investigator, Gloria the Glamorous (Whoopi looked divine in her outfit). He’s constantly befuddled by the mysterious political cabal known only as the Q, because every member only identifies as Q. He suspects they are trying to take over the city, and possibly all the crime gangs as well.
He has an on again, off again flirtation with the widow and single mother Dr. Beverly Crusher, who runs a clinic with her aging mentor, Bones McCoy. His main foe is Madred (why are all the Cardassian characters gangsters?), who rules the gang Dukat belongs to, rivals of the Obsidian gang Garak belongs to. Sometimes, he is able to play them off each other.
